My Diary: Biology-Virus

Dear Leci,

well, now I'm in holiday, so I don't go to school(of course). But, I still study today because I shall get a test after school, and I want to study Biology, especially about Virus.

well, I make some questions and important words about Virus.

VIRUS

1.      Who is the founder of the existence of Virus?
The founder of the existence of virus is Adolf Meyer, who research the causes of yellow spots on tobacco leaves.
2.      What are the characteristics of Virus?
-          Virus is not a cell
-          Virus can be crystallized and has no protoplasm
-          Virus only can proliferate in certain host cell
-          Virus cannot performs its live function to do the metabolism process
-          Virus cannot produce or store energy in the form of ATP
-          Virus is able to do all metabolism function and get energy only from the host cell.
-          Virus has a very small size, with a size range of 100-400 nm
-          Virus has nucleus acid(DNA or RNA) as core material
-          Most of the viruses are endoparasites
3.      What is the form of virus?
4.      Capsid is a units of proteins coat which is surrounded the virus’s nucleus acid to protect it.
5.      Virion is a particle virus in inactive form.
6.      Vitoid is a virus-like object, which is a disease carrier that contains RNA and has no protein coat.
7.      Prion is other virus-like particles that composed of main material which is combination or integration of the molecules of nucleic acid and protein.
8.      Bacteriophage is virus that attacks bacteria.
9.      The process of Proliferation:
a.       Lytic cycle : Adsorption-Penetration-replication-assembling-lysis.
b.      Lysogenic cycle where is after virus genetic material fused with hot cell, when the host cell undergoes fission, the virus genetic material is doubled also and derived it to its generation.
10.  Lysis is the breakage of the host cell membrane and discharge of cytoplasm.
11.  Bacteriophage called virulen because it infected its bacteria and killed it rapidly because it undergoes a lysis.
-          Virulent is a virus that always reproductive by kills the bacterial host cell.
12.  Eclipse period is the multiplied DNA period trough transcription and translation process.
13.  Prophage is the DNA of bacteriophage that inserted to genetic material of host cell.
14.  Temperate phage is virus which is able to pass through the lytic and lysogenic cycle.
15.  Determination of phage type is a way to determine bacterial strain by viewing type of lysis after being infected by certain phage.
